Here we present a C&R Colt Army Special Double Action Revolver, made in 1927 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1908 through 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut, with a serial number range between 291,000 and around 545,000. The Colt Army Special was a heavier framed improved version designed by Colt to replace the various over-complicated models of Colt New Army and Navy revolvers. As mentioned above, it was in production from 1908 to 1927 in hopes of securing a military contract. The United States Army instead adopted the Colt M1909 New Service revolver in .45 Long Colt and later the Colt M1911 Self-Loading pistol in the .45 ACP cartridge after extensive trials.
It became one of the best-selling police firearms of all time, eventually in the 1950s coming to exemplify typical law enforcement officer weaponry. The Official Police was also used by various U.S. and allied military forces during World War II.
The overall condition is excellent. Original nickel finished has been preserved. Robust, tight action all the way around. Sometimes the ejections rod sticks a little and requires manual adjustments, but the spring does function. The bore is bright and nicely rifled. Sharp markings. Both grips are replacements and remain in fine shape. Numbers match.
This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
Barrel is 5 inches.
Caliber: .38 Special
Overall condition as seen in photos.
