Colt Cased Factory Engraved Police Positive with Mob Ties, Al Capone & Bugs Moran
Description:
The year is 1926, the City was Chicago and the mob was in the middle of a war that began in 1924 when the two biggest mobsters, Capone & Moran, began squabbling over territorial rights. By 1926, Chicago, had gotten a national reputation for gang mayhem. Al Capone enlisted the aid of Maxie Eisen, a labor leader with wide contacts, to set up a conference amongst the various gangs at the Hotel Sherman. This meeting was then referred to as The Hotel Sherman Treaty. The meeting was set for October, 1926 and the list of gangs who attended was like a Who’s Who of the Chicago underworld. While it is unclear who may have owned this engraved Colt revolver we do know that it was commonplace for Chicago gangsters in the 1920s-1930s to live at the various hotels in the city. Al Capone and his mob stayed at the Lexington Hotel and then eventually moved to the Metropole Hotel on south Michigan Ave. Bugs Moran and his guys lived at the Parkway Hotel and Schemer Drucci and crew lived on the 8th floor of the Commonwealth Hotel. Whomever purchased this gun wanted a fancy one and it was shipped from Colt to one of their largest distributors, Von Lingerie and Antoine in Chicago. This distributor had large stores in both Chicago and New York. From there it was delivered to the Sherman Hotel but the recipient is unknown. The factory pearl stocks are inscribed LR on the right grip panel. While we can’t be sure it was delivered to one of the Chicago mobsters we believe that it certainly had a good chance.
This Police Positive has a 5” barrel and is chambered in .38 caliber. It includes a Colt factory letter. The gun is housed in a wooden case that includes a box of period ammo, Oil canister, cleaning rod and key for the case. The gun is factory engraved and is fitted with pearl monogrammed grips. The condition is very good with just minimal wear. Also included is paperwork pertaining to the Sherman Hotel and a description of the Mob meeting. If you are looking for something special this just may it.
I offer a three day non firing inspection period and always want the buyer to be satisfied with their purchase. The gun will be packed correctly and shipped via FedEx Air with insurance to your FFL dealer in the continental United States for $55 (California is extra because I have to ship through my local dealer). This gun requires a C&R or FFL license for transfer. I ship the following day after the payment arrives and provide tracking information. Please see my other Colts and various collectible firearms that I have listed. Thanks for your interest and please let me know if you have any questions. Price is $16,500.00 plus shipping.
Please Note: A same as cash price Lay-A-Way plan is available on this gun. Please call to discuss.
