COLT, Shooting Master Revolver, .38 Spl. Cal. X 6” Barrel, c.1932

Description:
*** Second Revision , Photo Added *** I've had the same question 3 times: "Is there a five pointed star on the front face of the Cyl.?" My response has been, no there is a lazy "A". I have a second Shooting Master in my collecthon that has the same lazy "A".
A Shooting Master collector has been kind enough to offer additional information. The "Five Pointed Star" was placed on the Cylindar face of only the .357 Magnum revolvers to signify a grade of steel that was safe for the Magnums high pressure loads. The "A" is an inspectors mark. This .38 Special Caliber Revolver is correct without the Star. Look for the book coming in 2025 on Shooting Masters, additional information will drive collector intrest and prices higher.
The Colt Shooting Master Revolver was the most expensive revolver Colt made at the time. Hand assembly, fitting and polishing made it the Python of its time. Adjustable Front and Rear sights are factory standard. The Trigger, Hammer, Front Grip Strap and Back strap are factory checkered for a unique appearance within the Colt family of revolvers. It has an excellent bore and smooth tight action; it clearly has seen very few rounds fired. It’s interesting that the Cal. Marking is vague, “.38”. The cylinder is lengthened to accommodate a competitor “.38 S&W Spl”. Colt would not advertise the competitors improved cartridge.
This Shooting Master has led a very protected life for the past 91 years. It was manufactured in 1932 and still appears in like new condition, well almost. The Left side of the revolver is 99% with only the slightest hint of wear at the muzzle and a very light turn line. The Right side matches the Left in condition, with the exception of scratches near the hammer. These are clearly shown in the photos. Speaking for Collectors everywhere, I’d love to smack the snot out of the dumb ass that did this. This is a rare Revolver that would be a fine addition to any Colt collection. .38 Spl. Cal. with a 6” barrel. Serial Number: 334158N.
