Factory Engraved Colt Officers Model Target
Description: This factory engraved Colt Officers Model Target was produced in May of 1948 and retained by Phil Schwartz, Vice President of Colt, until 1954. Presumably, it was used as a display gun at the Colt factory. In October of 1954, the gun was purchased by Ms. Jean Shepard of Windsor, Connecticut, and remained in her family until I purchased the gun from them. Essentially I am the second owner of the gun and can attest to the fact that the gun has never been fired since leaving the Colt factory. It remains in new condition less the box and paperwork which to my understanding was lost many years ago. The gun is chambered in .38 Special and has the 6” heavy barrel. It has the factory-installed carved ivory stocks with the carved eagle on the right side. A Colt factory letter will be included with the gun. The gun has class “A” engraving however it seems more like “B” engraving to me. I assume that since it was going to be kept at the factory the engravers made sure it was done up to their best standards. This gun was part of my Colt Officers Model display and shown at the 2014 Colt Collector Association show in Concord, N.C. where it won the Best of Show award and again the following year at the NRA show in Nashville, TN. (See Photo’s) It was also shown on the cover of the winter edition of the Rampant Colt Magazine of which a copy will be provided with the gun. If you desire a top-of-the-line Colt revolver that is in superb condition with lots of eye appeal then I think you have found it.
