RAILWAY EXPRESS AGENCY COLT
Description:
There are very unique markings on this Colt "Police Positive". Markings on the backstrap are " RY. EX. AGY." Also on the holster "R. E. A. EXPRESS". This is a 4 inch barrel Police Positive 38 S&W. Very good condition overall with some light holster wear. Mechanics and bore are all VG. As stated there is a black dyed holster that is still in very good usable condition. Some of the original dye from the holster has worn off and gives it that nice aged appearance. Markings on the holster are excellent. Also it comes with an old leather satchel pouch, an R.E.A. remittance envelope and some shipping tags. There is an interesting story about the Railway Express Agency. It was set up by the US Government in 1917. The Government wanted safe shipping specifically for WWI. The Railway Express Agency continued on for years and finally ceased operation in 1975. The Hay days would have been through WWI and WWII where they were very active. During the 50's and 60's other transportation became available. The R.E.A. served much like our UPS today delivering shipments. This outfit would have been protection for those shipments.
