Description:
Factory nickel 2" Colt Police Positive Special. The very first named "Detective Specials" appeared in the high 340000 serial number range in 1927. These rare "Pre-Detective Specials" first appeared in early 1926 and can be found in the 336000 to 345000 serial number range. They are the transition model between the Police Positive Special and the Detective Special. Total production figures are unknow, but estimates put them at no more than several hundred, with the nickel finish being manufactured in extremely small numbers. This example is also wearing the even more scarce narrow grip frame (1 9/16") dimensions of the Police Positive Special. The nickel finish combined with the narrow grip frame make this a truely rare find. I've only seen two or three offered for sale in my 30 years of collecting, and this is one of them. The condition would rate as "good", as the gun shows normal wear and tear for a 100 year old revolver. There is some minor clouding of the nickel finish along with nicks and scrapes. Mechanical operation is excellent with tight lock up and proper cycling. The original walnut grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering. A Colt Archive letter is included to verify the gun's original configuration. Over-all a very nice original example of a very rare Colt Pre-War revolver. Price includes shipping (CONUS).
