Description: RARE SPECIAL ORDER 4 ½” BARREL OFFICERS MODEL TARGET REVOLVER, .38 SPECIAL, #495XXX, FACTORY LETTER, SHIPPED 1923. Almost all of this model were made with 6” barrel. Very few had special 4 ½” barrels fitted. Often they were special ordered for law enforcement or anyone wanting a shorter barrel holster gun. The Colt factory letter included with this one states it was manufactured with a 4 ½” barrel and shipped with one other revolver on March 28, 1923 to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Company, Boston, Massachusetts. Overall excellent condition retaining about all the blue with only the very lightest of edge wear and a few minor scratches around the forward portion of the cylinder release latch. Exc. fire blue on the hammer back and trigger. Checkered back strap and checkered trigger. Adjustable sights, deep dish Colt medallion checkered walnut grips are excellent and have the matching penciled serial number inside. Even the front face of the cylinder retains nearly all the blue indicating that this one was fired little if at all. Tight action and minty bright bore. This is a super scarce Officers Model variation from the Roaring Twenties.
