SELDOM SEEN SHOOTING MASTER TARGET NEW SERVICE REVOLVER, .38 SPECIAL CALIBER, #340XXX, MADE 1936.
Description: SELDOM SEEN SHOOTING MASTER TARGET NEW SERVICE REVOLVER, .38 SPECIAL CALIBER, #340XXX, MADE 1936. The Shooting Master was introduced near the beginning of the Great Depression in 1931. As most Colts produced during this time, the hand fitting and finishing was probably the best ever turned out by Colt. Extra care was placed on the top of the line Shooting Master and it is probably one of the finest Colt revolvers ever turned out by that famed company. Total production was only 3500 before it was discontinued for World War II. The .38 Special was considered the standard caliber for this model with a total of only 2500 manufactured in the ten years of production (comes out to about only 250 a year!). The Shooting Master differed from the New Service Target mainly by having a thinner, curved grip and a 6" barrel. The back strap, front strap and trigger checkering was maintained and checkered walnut medallion grips were standard. This mid-production example is in superb condition showing almost all the original blue intact with a trace of edge wear- even the cylinder barely has a cylinder drag line. Some screws have been lightly turned, but not buggered. Wonderful tight hand tuned action and bright bore. Revolvers like this will never be produced again.
