Antique COLT Model 1878 “FRONTIER” .45 Long Colt DOUBLE ACTION Revolver “Double Action Army” .45 Caliber Colt Made in 1889
Description: Antique COLT Model 1878 “FRONTIER” .45 Long Colt DOUBLE ACTION Revolver “Double Action Army” .45 Caliber Colt Made in 1889 Here we present an antique Colt 1878 Double Action Frontier Revolver, made in 1889 in Hartford, Connecticut. The M1878 was designed by William Mason, Colt's factory manager and Charles Brinckerhoff Richards, Superintendent of Engineering. The 1878 Frontier was a much larger and more reliable version of the Model 1877 Lightning and Thunderer, Colt’s first double action revolver. The 1878 Frontier also offered a much more comprehensive array of calibers, compared to the 1877’s three offerings. Despite all of this, the Model 1877 was clearly the popular favorite as over 166,000 were produced versus 51,210 of the Model 1878 made between 1878 through 1907. This example includes a J.K. POLK holster! Polk established his lucrative leather business in the 1880s. His clientele naturally consisted of cowboys, ranchers, and military calvary. Polk’s saddlery was one of the finest in all of Texas selling all types of leather goods. In 1897, Polk sold his business to S.D. Myres who made the saddlery famous, not only throughout the Old West, but even into the Industrial age. This holster is stamped “J . K. POLK/SWEETWATER.” The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The cylinder freewheels when the hammer is at rest. The bore is bright. The front sight is a Marbles that was slipped over the original and pinned into place. The grips are in generally good shape though a bit small and move a bit. The grip screw is a replacement. A neat old revolver with a great holster! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches. Caliber: .45 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1785 #201361 SOLD Antique: Yes |
