c1892 “FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER” by COLT Model 1878 .44-40 WCF Revolver Antique Double Action & Single Action Sidearm!
Description: c1892 “FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER” by COLT Model 1878 .44-40 WCF Revolver Antique Double Action & Single Action Sidearm! Here we present an antique Colt Model 1878 Double Action Frontier Six Shooter Revolver, made in 1892 in Hartford, Connecticut. The M1878 was designed by William Mason, Colt's factory manager and Charles Brinckerhoff Richards, Superintendent of Engineering. The 1878 Frontier was a much larger and more reliable version of the Model 1877 Lightning and Thunderer, Colt’s first double action revolver. The 1878 Frontier also offered a much more comprehensive array of calibers, compared to the 1877’s three offerings. Many lawmen of the period are known to have carried the Model 1878. The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent in both double and single action. The bore is in great shape with nice rifling. The left side of the revolver maintains smooth surfaces and good original blue finish and patina, while it is clear that the right side of the gun was exposed to more moisture or weathering. The right side has a bit less finish and some light pitting, especially on the ejector housing. The markings remain clear. The Colt trademarked hard rubber grips show some honest wear and there is a small crack toward the heel of the right panel, which is stable. This is a well-used and well-preserved sidearm in a cartridge that would have gone nicely with a Winchester Model 1873 or 1892 in the late-19th Century! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Center Fire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3635 #210207 SOLD Antique: Yes |
