SAN FRANCISCO Lettered Antique COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER 44-40 WCF Revolver Western Shipped 1898 Colt FRONTIER .44-40
Description: SAN FRANCISCO Lettered Antique COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER 44-40 WCF Revolver Western Shipped 1898 Colt FRONTIER .44-40 Here we present an antique Colt Frontier Six-Shooter Model 1873 Revolver in .44-40 Winchester Center Fire, manufactured in 1898 in Hartford, Connecticut. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration as well as shipment to Colt's Patent Fire Arms Co. in San Francisco on January 10, 1898. The Colt Frontier or Frontier Six-Shooter was Colt's Model 1873 revolver manufactured in .44-40 Winchester caliber instead of .45 so that it was compatible with Winchester’s Model 1873 ammunition. Production began in 1877. “Colt Frontier Six-Shooter” was the actual name of the Colt pistol model, and this was acid-etched on the left side of the barrel. After 1889, the legend was roll-stamped until 1919, when the caliber designation ".44-40" was added. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and crisp. The bore is in good shape with strong rifling. The finish has matured to smooth dark brown patina. Both sides of the grips feature a federal eagle. Here is a hard to come by factory lettered first generation Colt Frontier! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44-40 WCF Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $5595 #20610 SOLD Antique: Yes |
