COLT MODEL 1877 (LIGHTNING) 1st COLT DOUBLE ACTION PISTOL
Description: COLT MODEL 1877 (LIGHTNING) DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. This is Colt's FIRST double action pistol and is historically significant. Pistol is .38 Colt calibur, 4 1/2" barrel, with ejoctor rod, 6 shot, double action, long cylinder fluting, blue finish with case hardened frame and hammer. Manufactured from 1877-1909. The Model 1877 and the Model 1878 were the ONLY fixed cylinder, double actiuon models EVER made by Colt. All subsequent models had swing-out cylinders. Only 166,000 of these historic pistols were made and they are a western rarity. These pistols were known as mechanically fragile and few survived. This example is in 100% perfect mechanical condition. The rifling is quite distinct and all the markings are deep and crisp. Very tight lockup. The grips show more wear than the pistol, but are 100% intact. Bluing is distinct on the trigger guard, frame near the hammer, the hammer and parts of the barrel. Brown, even patina over the balance. A used, but very good condition 150 year old departure in Colt engineering.
