This is an all-matching Colt 1851 Navy Revolver with 7.5" barrel in .36 cal., a historically significant pre-WWI sidearm used by the US Military, documented with a factory letter confirming its shipment to the Navy in 1861.
Description:
Standard configuration Colt 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver chambered in .36 cal. with 7.5" round barrel, blade front sight and notched hammer rear sight. Single line address on top of the barrel referencing address and manufacturer. “COLTS/PATENT” on the left side of the frame, “36CAL” on the left side of the brass trigger guard, and the five digit SN “2417” repeated on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt. Blued barrel and cylinder; color case hardened frame, trigger, and hammer; brass trigger guard and backstrap. Complete with an original factory letter referencing make, model, SN, finish, straps, and that it was sold to the Dept. of the Navy & shipped to Lieutenant Colonel Ramsay in Washington D.C. in a shipment of 200 Colt Model 1851 revolvers.
Condition:
A largely grey-brown revolver with trace case colors on hammer and frame. Brass components mellowed to a uniform mustard color, the bottom of the butt having a few shallow dings. Comparable condition grips, the right panel with a small pinned repair at base. Wedge with small loss at right extension. Dark bore. Correct manual mechanics. Excellent factory letter dated 2015.
