Scarce IRON FRAME COLT Model 1851 NAVY Revolver
Description: Scarce IRON FRAME COLT Model 1851 NAVY Revolver Made Just Prior to the Civil War in 1857 Here we present a scarce USN marked iron grip frame antique Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, made in 1857 in Hartford, Connecticut. The 1851 Navy was one of Colt’s most famous and successful lines, reaching a production total of 257,348 from 1850 to 1873 (right up to the time of SAA production) from both Hartford and London factories. From Hartford alone, 185,000 were made by the end of the American Civil War. Many of these saw service during the conflict on both sides. There were some military purchases and lots of private purchases by soldiers going off to war. In addition, the Model 1851 was carried by Confederate General Robert E. Lee, and was a favorite of “Doc” Holliday and “Wild Bill” Hickok, who carried two of these most famously in his red sash. This one is marked “U.S.” under the Colt Patent marking on the left side of the frame. The bottom of the iron frame is marked “U*S*N”. The overall condition is good. The iron surfaces are dark with an even patina. The markings are clear. The cylinder scene has worn from use. The numbers match where present. The wedge is a replacement. The grip shows hard use with handling marks and smoothed corners but remains solid. The bore is dark with strong rifling. Here is a scarce and early Antebellum Colt 1851 Navy that weathered the storms of war and time to remain a tangible reminder of our history. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches octagon Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2600 #8637 SOLD Antique: Yes |
