1923 Colt New Service Revolver .45 Long Colt w/ Factory Nickel Finish SOLD
Description:
The .45 LC Colt New Service revolver is one of the real classic American revolvers, a large frame double action revolver in a large caliber with a lot of hand fitting and finishing typical of pre-WW2 guns. Most examples we see are blued with the factory nickel finish guns much more scarce. This example is serial number 319660 and was manufactured in 1923 as a .45 Colt model with a 7.5" inch barrel in the Colt factory nickel finish. It is an all-original piece including the mathcing numbered factory grips. The bore in this New Service is bright with nice sharp rifling, with only some very shallow surface pits near the middle of the barrel. There are no bulges or dents thru the entire length of the barrel. The original factory nickel finish rates a conservative 97 to 90%, with small assorted handling/storage marks in the finish and a few small areas of plating loss. As you can see from the pictures the Colt has a great look to it, and a uniform clean appearance. While this New Service was certainly fired and used at various times over the last 95 years it appears to have been well cared-for and never abused. The original checkered black plastic factory grips are in great shape. They are free from any cracks or repairs and show minor handling marks and very light wear. They are perfectly fit and tight to the frame, and serial numbered to the gun on the inside. The mechanics of this revolver are excellent. The action is perfectly "in time" and it locks up solidly with zero play in the cylinder at full-lock. The action is smooth and slick, a well known attribute of these pre-war Colts. We do not see these early Colt New Service models too often in such fine condition, and we almost never see factory nickel finish guns with this much finish on them. This Colt would be an excellent addition to any collection, and one that would be very hard to upgrade from.
