Colt .455 Eley - NEW SERVICE, LARGE FRAME, BRITISH PROOF, vintage firearms inc
Description:
General Specs: Colt, Year 1900, .455 Eley, 39.3oz
Serial Number: 3126
Made for the British market this Colt New Service- Serial number 3126 was manufactured in 1900 at Colts Hartford plant, then it was shipped to the United Kingdom where it was profusely proofed and stamped with many of the Crown’s proof marks including the legend ‘NOT ENGLISH MAKE’! Both the frame and cylinder crane have SN 3126, the barrel and each chamber and flute are proofed. It is built on Colts large Frame and was ideally suited to the large .455 Eley ‘man stopper’. It embodies history and action in its appearance. The 5 ½” barrel has some holster wear, and the frame has seen countless actions but the cylinder still locks up as tight as the day it was assembled! Its double and single action retains that famous Colt smoothness. The trigger still exhibits Colt’s nitre blue, the hammer shows original case color. At some point in its history the grips have been replaced but a quicksearch would soon supply you with the correct panels to complete this sidearm to its original form, the gun is priced accordingly.
A Colt that has travelled the world, still readily able to shoot away at targets or game, and a great talking piece for any collection. Thanks for looking!
