Colt New Service Model 1909 Navy Revolver, Includes Original 1909 Navy Holster and Colt Letter
Description: Here is a scarce one. It is the Colt New Service Model 1909 Navy and one of only 1100 that were made. I have owned six of these over my collecting years and this one rates at the top. The gun is mechanically perfect with an excellent bore and the Navy marking with the anchor are clearly marked on the butt. Overall condition is very good and the revolver retains its original high polish finish and has not been refinished or touched up in any way. There is normal wear with the back strap showing thinning patina. The underside of the barrel, rear of the cylinder & right side of the frame under the grip panel are each marked with an N indicating Navy contract. The numbers match on the frame, cylinder crane and cylinder release latch. The plain walnut stocks are free from chips and cracks. The hammer, trigger and grip screw all have the fire blued finish. The correct Millsholster is also included with the gun. This is only the second one of these that I have encountered and they are extremely rare. A Colt letter is also included indicating shipment in June of 1911. The Colt New Service Model 1909 revolver was developed by Colt to fill a contract from the U.S. Government for use in the Philippines where a large caliber handgun was needed. The development on the Colt 1911 auto had not been completed and a heavy caliber revolver filled the need for a couple of years. The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps both liked the new 1909 and each ordered a small quantity with the navy being the smallest at only 1100 guns. This is a very rare and desirable Colt revolver that seldom show up, especially in this condition. I offer a three day non firing inspection period and always want the buyer to be satisfied with their purchase. The gun will be packed correctly and shipped via FedEx Air with insurance to your FFL dealer in the continental United States for $55 (California is extra because I have to ship through my local dealer). This gun requires a C&R or FFL license for transfer. I ship the following day after the payment arrives and provide tracking information.
