EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND IMPORTANT MODEL 1909 U.S.M.C. .45 COLT REVOLVER
Description: EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND IMPORTANT MODEL 1909 U.S.M.C. .45 COLT CALIBER NEW SERVICE REVOLVER! This is a unique model unto itself with only 1300 made and delivered to the U.S. government for Marine Corps issue, it differs from the Army and Navy Model 1909s in that it has a rounded grip frame and is fitted with its own checkered walnut grips (when these are missing it is almost impossible to find original replacements), most of these big Colts saw very hard service and survival rates are small, a few that I've encountered over the years have had their USMC markings riled off or have been refinished, this one remains in its unaltered original condition in every way, the serial number 259XX on the frame and crane match as does the last three digits of the butt marked "USMC" over No. 9XX" and the checkered grips that fit perfectly have the number penciled inside, all Colt markings are clear and distinct with the last patent date on the barrel 1905, correct early stylized "C" with rampant colt on the left side of the frame, still retains fine even blue overall with normal holster wear to the sides of the barrel, cylinder/top strap edge wear with trigger guard bottom and grip strap wear, in the areas of blue wear the metal is gray/brown and not cleaned or steel-wooled, retains some nice fire blue on the trigger sides and hammer top/back, unaltered front sight, exc. bore, tight action, unaltered front sight, this is a great issued and used 1909 USMC revolver that was obviously carried, but not abused and still retains lots of nice blue on the frame, barrel top and bottom and cylinder, butt swivel intact, original grips show honest wear to the checkering, but are solid and fine with no chips or cracks! Good info on these can be found in Tim Mullin's excellent book on the New Service Revolver. A really great example that exudes history! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1909 USMC .45 REVOLVER Serial Number: 25XXX Caliber Info: .45 Colt Condition: fine Barrels: 5 1/2 |
