SCARCE MODEL 1909 U. S. ARMY .45 COLT NEW SERVICE, #43XXX.
Description: SCARCE MODEL 1909 U. S. ARMY .45 COLT NEW SERVICE, #43XXX. This was the last U.S. issue revolver in .45 Colt caliber. (Not to be confused with the later and more common M-1917 .45 ACP Colt and S&W revolvers). These big revolvers featured a high polish commercial finish and are marked on the butt "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1909" with a serial number matching the yoke and frame visible when the cylinder is opened. The bottom of the barrel is alslo marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY." This last marking often ground off. The top of the barrel has the usual Colt address and last patent date of 1905. The frame has the early "stylized C" rampant colt stamping. It has the correct "RAC" inspector stsamp on the bottom of each smooth walnut grip as well as normal government inspection stamps for this model. Generally fine high polish blue overall with normal holster/handling wear to the forward barrel sides, back strap, top strap and light edge wear. The trigger sides and hammer back show good fire blue, exc. screw heads, tight action, exc. bore. There is still considerable old cosmoline in this one indicating that it was stored for many years- I have not removed this grease. A superbly crafted Colt that is unaltered and still in fine condition.
