TEXAS Shipped LETTERED 1915 mfr. COLT “NEW SERVICE” .44-40 WCF Revolver C&R To the SHELTON-PAYNE ARMS COMPANY in EL PASO
Description: TEXAS Shipped LETTERED 1915 mfr. COLT “NEW SERVICE” .44-40 WCF Revolver C&R To the SHELTON-PAYNE ARMS COMPANY in EL PASO Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Factory Lettered Texas Shipped Colt “New Service” Model Double Action Six-Shot Revolver, made in 1915 in Hartford, Connecticut. Given when and where this revolver shipped, it's likely to have taken part in some of the various border incidents related to the ongoing Mexican Revolution at the time. The included factory letter lists the revolver in .44 caliber with a 5-1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, and furnished with a lanyard swivel when shipped to Shelton-Payne Arms Co. in El Paso, Texas on January 19, 1915, as part of a 500 gun shipment. This revolver was conceived to be a serious workhorse for the military, police, and anyone who wanted a large double action revolver in a caliber such as .45 Colt. The US would go on to adopt versions that would be known as the Model 1909 and the Model 1917 for the Marines and the Army. Other chamberings that were available throughout the period of manufacture (1898-1946) were .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley (Eley), and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers. They would see use in the Spanish American War, the World Wars, even in Vietnam. This would have been a very handy companion to go along with your Winchester in the same caliber, only having to carry on type of ammunition. The overall condition is good+. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent in double and single action modes. Bright bore with sharp rifling. The left grip has a chip at the heel while the right grip has some wear marks at the rear. The back strap of the frame has filed in checking. Numbers match on the frame and the crane. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Center Fire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. $2600 #259554 SOLD Antique: Yes |
