OFFICERS MODEL .38 SPECIAL WITH RARE 7 ½” BARREL, #516XXX, MADE 1925
Description: OFFICERS MODEL .38 SPECIAL WITH RARE 7 ½” BARREL, #516XXX, MADE 1925. While Colt offered several barrel lengths in this model, the 6” was considered standard and other lengths are rarely found. This one has the longest length offered and isn’t encountered often. This example shows nice fire blue on the back of the hammer and on the trigger. It has the correct checkered back strap and trigger. All markings are sharp and clear with the last barrel patent date of 1905. Fine deep blue overall with normal wear to each side of the barrel from holster carry. It also has similar blue thinning and edge wear to the cylinder and grip straps etc. Exc. bright bore and the action locks up as tight as the day it left the Colt factory. The walnut grips have the silver Colt medallions, but someone put very coarse checkering on both sides. This has the hand fitted, pre-war action that would be too costly to produce today and was the forerunner of the famed Python action. Flat top frame with target sights, the front sight insert is a blade with a long copper bead which matches the rounded sight notch in the rear sight. Obviously a revolver that was used, but not neglected or abused.
