Scarce COLT Fourth Issue OFFICER’S MODEL SPECIAL .38 Caliber Revolver C&R
WITH COLTMASTER ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT!
Description: Scarce COLT Fourth Issue OFFICER’S MODEL SPECIAL .38 Caliber Revolver C&R WITH COLTMASTER ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT! Here we present a C&R Colt Officer’s Model Special, sometimes referred to as the Officer’s Model 4th Issue, Revolver manufactured in 1951 in Hartford, Connecticut. This model is one of the rarer post-war Colt DAs, built in very small numbers from 1949 to 1952 when it was replaced by the Officers Model Match, also referred to as the Officer’s Model Fifth Issue which was built from 1953 to 1969. The Officer’s Model Special uses a Coltmaster adjustable rear sight and came with the Colt wood grips only. The later Match model used walnut grips. Fortunately, the Officers Special and its predecessors and successors all retain the superb fit and finish and smooth action of the prewar models. The “Coltmaster” rear sight, according to the Colt Firearms reference book, is entirely different than that on Colt's preceding and succeeding center-fire target revolvers, the Officers Model Target and Officers Model Match. As mentioned above, the Officer’s Model Special was only in production from 1949 to 1952 and was the only Colt handgun to have the Coltmaster rear sight, except for the Second and Third Model Match Target Woodsman .22 target autos made between 1948 and 1953. In 1904, Colt manufactured their first medium frame double action revolver like the Colt Officer’s Model Special we have here. This was technically a variant of the original Colt New Army and Navy Series of 1892 to 1908. For 65 years they manufactured this handgun built on the “E” frame under several different names, one of them being this “Officer’s Model Special”. The Officer’s Model was the top of Colt’s revolver line as a target revolver until the introduction of the Colt Python in 1955 and in 1969 the Colt Officer’s Model was dropped from production. The overall condition is very fine. Original blue has been preserved. The action is strong and tight all the way around. Both grips are in excellent shape with sharp checkering and prancing pony emblems! The bore is bright throughout. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .38 Special Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1385 #210244 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
