EXTREMELY SCARCE, BEAUTIFUL CONDITION TARGET POLICE POSITIVE IN .32 POLICE CARTRIDGE MADE 1933
Description: EXTREMELY SCARCE, BEAUTIFUL CONDITION TARGET POLICE POSITIVE IN .32 POLICE CARTRIDGE (SAME AS .32 S&W LONG), #252XXX, MADE DURING THE WORST YEAR OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION 1933. All of the Police Positive Target revolvers with adjustable sights are not common and almost all were made in either .22 Long Rifle or .22 WRF. Very few were chambered in .32 Police Center Fire. This cartridge is identical to the .32 S&W Long with the exception it was factory loaded with a flat point lead bullet. I believe this was Colt's way to dodge having to put ".32 S&W Long" on their barrels! In both S&W and Colt models any target sighted .32 caliber is quite rare. Both companies made large numbers of .22 Rim Fire and .38 Special revolvers in target configuration, but very few in .32 cal. This super example was made during the worst year of the Great Depression/Dust Bowl days when the U.S. economy was at its worst. Like most companies, Colt had laid off a good portion of its work force, keeping only their best gunsmiths and craftsmen on the payroll. The quality of these Great Depression guns (from all makers) was generally superb in every way. This rare Police Positive Target is no exception. It retains nearly all the blue with barely a smudge at the extreme muzzle and hardly a cylinder drag line that doesn't even go through the blue. The back strap is checkered as is the trigger and the trigger and hammer back display fine fire blue. The frame and bottom of the trigger guard show some minor age dulling of the blue with one very small lightly worn spot above the trigger on the left side. Even the front face of the cylinder shows excellent blue indicating that this revolver was rarely if ever fired. All sharp and clear markings with correct 1926 last patent date on the barrel top, wonderfully hand fitted and tuned 1930s Colt action and trigger pull, with minty bright bore. The grips are real pearl and fit fairly well with one small chip at the lower right rear corner. One could look for years at big gun shows and not find one of these .32 Target Colts, especially in this condition.
