COLT Pocket Positive .32 S&W
Description: Guns Listing ID: 573010 Make: Colt Model: Pocket Positive SN: 35759 MFG. Date: 1907 Caliber: .32 Capacity: 6-Shot Action Type: Double Action Revolver Barrel Length: 3" Sights/Optics: Rear notch Front Blade Grips: Black Plastic Bore Condition: Sharp Rifling Other Info: Uses the New Pocket Receiver The introduction of the Pocket Positive in 1905 followed the 12 years of production of the New Pocket. The Pocket Positive was a successor of the New Pocket and featured the new Positive Lock mechanism. We have to note a four-year transition period in which Colt used up old parts from the New Pocket. As many of the collectors know, Colt was never known for throwing out old parts if they could somehow be used. Transition barrels have been noted to have markings associated with both models. The early New Pocket barrel was now marked with the Pocket Positive marking on the right side of the barrel. In using up the old frames the circular NEW POCKET logo on the left side of the frame remained for the first four years until these old frames were used up. The Pocket Positive was made in four-barrel lengths, 2\", 2 1/2\", 3 1/2\" & 6\". It was offered in both blue and nickel finish however this writer has yet to encounter a nickel 6\". While it stands to reason that one was produced it still remains to be found. In conversations with other long-time collectors of the Pocket Positives, they have expressed the same opinion. The standard stocks on this model were hard rubber. As with other pre-war models, various stock materials could be ordered such as checkered wood, ivory & pearl. Chamberings for the Pocket Positive were the same as the New Pocket, .32 Colt & .32 New Police (.32 S&W). Caliber markings were as follows: .32 COLT CTG. & .32 POLICE CTG. This Pocket Positive had two variations; 1st model 1905-1926 & 2nd model 1926-1943. The new Colt logo which began in 1909 after all of the New Pocket frames were used was a Stylized C logo which lasted thru 1912 and then the Stylized C was removed, and the Rampant pony was left prancing by himself. The serial numbers on this model were stamped in the crane area on both the frame and crane from approximately 30,000-159,000. After the old straight barrels from the New Pockets were used up in about 1908, Colt introduced a new tapered barrel with a bolster at the breech end. Many special Pocket Positives were made throughout production that included cut hammers and checkered straps along with inscribed and engraved models. A few were enhanced with gold and silver finishes.
