Description:
Early production Colt Python .357 Magnum Revolver, SN: 16831, made 1961, with 6-inch barrel, Colt Royal Blue finish. Usual serrated ramp front sight, now with a segment of white paint, and fully adjustable Elliason type rear sight. SN: 16831 is stamped on both frame and crane. Left side of barrel marked "PYTHON .357/.357 MAGNUM CTG" with Rampant Colt on frame; the right side marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT USA". Target hammer and checkered brown wooden target grips with silver Colt medallions. The Python earned its reputation as "the Rolls-Royce of Colt revolvers" according to historian R.L. Wilson and was described by firearms historian Ian V. Hogg as "the best revolver in the world," renowned for its exceptional accuracy, smooth trigger pull, and precise cylinder lock-up.
Condition:
Near excellent original finish with light wear around muzzle and leading edge of cylinders consistent with having been holstered. Bright illumination shows some cold blue in these areas and over the ejector rod housing. Bright sides of hammer, mainly the right, with mild staining and oxidative flecking. Grips with sharp checkering and a few handling marks, most noticeable over their base. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics.
