THE COLT POLICE PYTHON
A HISTORY OF LEGENDARY AMERICAN EXCELLENCE
Both the Official Police and its adjustable-sight counterpart, the Officer’s Model Match, had a sturdy, yet smooth lockwork that combined the best (albeit scaled-down) features of the hardy New Service revolver.The Colt Python featured a fully adjustable white-outline Accro rear sight and a 1/8-inch front ramp with red inset. A wide spur, checkered hammer and grooved, curved trigger provided maximum control and fast lock time.Colt was almost immediately flooded with demands that they offer the Python in a 4" barrel for police use, and the first 4" barreled Pythons were advertised as the Colt New Police Python, although that name was never stamped on the gun.
With the Colt company in financial difficulties and having lost some of their best craftsmen, Colt moved production into the Colt Custom Shop in 1997 and made it a custom order only revolver. To highlight this move, the Python had the name "Elite" added to the barrel and it became the Colt Python Elite.
The Elite was exactly the same gun as the standard Python with only the barrel stamp being different.

- Highlighted Front and Rear Target Sights, fully adjustable white-outline Accro rear sight and a 1/8-inch front ramp with red inset.
- The Python is one of the best guns ever manufactured by Colt.
- This gun looks like brand new and was my fathers prized possession. Bought new when released in 1981. Never carried as a Duty gun and stayed in the Gun Safe at home.
- I don't know how much it was fired but shows almost no marking on the cylinder. As a Detective he carried a Colt .357 Trooper 3 that is also for sale. Fuz on gun from wiping down.
