#4975 Colt S/A, 7-1/2”x38WCF,
166XXX(1896), bore about G/VG
Description:
#4975 Colt S/A, 7-1/2”x38WCF, 166XXX(1896), bore about G/VG (6 and should clean to 7), very good action with all the clicks on the hammer. Smooth grayish-brown patina, very good markings, and very good standard hard rubber grips with about 30% wear to the checking and do look to be the original grips to this ole “hawg-leg”. Not a really commonly found caliber in a long barrel and especially this late when the shorter lengths were becoming far more saleable. It might also be noted that the 38/40 caliber was rapidly gaining popularity due to being the same powder charge but shooting a lighter projectile….so the “drop” was less at longer yardages. Also, this is the general serial range where the plunger cylinder release began, so a lot easier gun to pop the cylinder out to clean. VG-VG+ $3450
