#4988
Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF (44/40), 50XXX range (1879), VG bore
Description:
#4988 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF (44/40), 50XXX range (1879), VG bore (about a 7 to 7+ on a scale of 10) and VG action. The metal is decent for its age and about average for what is otherwise basically a “no-finish” gun with some scattered staining, light roughness, and minor pitting. Originally this was just a standard blue/CH finished revolver, but it is now basically a neutral grey patina with only FAINT traces here and there. The original wood grips show quite a bit of wear as well and have rim wear to both sides but also have a little of the original varnish on one side near the top. Overall, this old thumb-buster has a lot of “frontier charisma” and the look is what one usually wants to see on an old cowboy Colt that was well used but not seriously abused. There are a lot of photos to this desirable old S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 17 in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a real piece of the old 1880s Wild West and what was the second most popular frontier cartridge handgun in the West (…and in the “B” movie Westerns). Certainly one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field. VG $3595
