Colt Bisley .38 Special caliber revolver. Manufactured in 1906. Barrel length 4¾”. Bore is excellent. Action works perfectly. This Bisley has a factory ampersand mark on the right rear of the trigger guard. Prior to World War II, Colt offered a service of changing the barrel and cylinder for another caliber of the customers choice. A customer could also leave the cylinder the same and change the barrel length.
In our opinion, the barrel was probably longer and was changed for the current barrel. The barrel is marked “Bisley Model” and is factory marked “Colt Single Action Army .38 Special”. The cylinder is factory numbered “744” to match the original serial number of the gun. The cylinder is also chambered for .38 Special. The trigger, guard backstrap and case colors are original to the 1906 manufactured date. The cylinder, ejector and housing are Colts’ later 1930s style blue (not as high polished as the earlier the 1906 blue). Case colors are faded but visible. The gun has a much later pair of good stag grips.
So, to summarize this is a factory reworked Bisley in very good plus condition.
Note: The front sight has been lowered by the previous owner. It is common to find .32-20 and some .38-40 barrel sights lowered as the factory sight was too high and shot high so if you cared about accuracy you lowered it.
