*Very Rare* 1891 shipped Colt Frontier Six Shooter 44/40 4 3/4" barrel Nickel D.F.C. "Overrun Revolver" Fine Condition w/Letter
Description:
This is a very nice condition, antique Colt Frontier Six Shooter revolver! 44/40 cal., with original nickel finish 4 3/4" barrel, and factory letter. The frame, trigger guard, and back strap of this revolver were produced in 1883, but, not assembled and shipped until 8 years later in 1891, as a civilian revolver! Has the roll die, Colt Frontier Six Shooter marking on the barrel, instead of the etched panel marking, which is correct for a 1891 shipped 44/40 revolver. This is one of the very few government "Overrun" revolvers produced by Colt by utilizing leftover frames, back straps and trigger guards from government contracts and assembled them on civilian shipped revolvers.(See pg.277 in "The Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver" by Graham, Kopec and Moore.) There is still quite a bit of original nickel present on this gun. All markings are clear and very nice. Some original fire blue remains on most of the screws. Excellent mechanics with a very good bore. All 3 serial #'s match. You can still partially see the D.F.C. inspector marking just above the frame's serial #. (see pic). Equally rare, are the 1891 period and very scarce, "Eagleless Eagle" or "High Horse" rubber grips, produced for a very short time in the 1891 period. The grips fit well, although, there is no serial # inside, and are absoutely correct for this gun. This is a extremely nice, original, unmonkeyed with, and rare variation of a Colt black powder SAA revolver, seldom seen !! Please see my other nice original condition, Colt SAA's I have listed. NO FFL required for shipping, unless the state you live in requires one for transfer, NY,NJ, etc.. Ship for $30.00 which includes the insurance to the lower 48 states.
