1873 Colt Single Action Army .45 Revolver 1st Gen Blackpowder Frame SAA 1877 Nickel Ivory 7 1/2" Beautiful!
Description: *SALE PENDING* Wild West Era Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver, Nickel Finish with Ivory Grips, .45 Cal, mfg. 1877 with 7 1/2" barrel. This is a lovely original Single Action which was shipped new to H. D. Folsom's New York City branch within their first year of opening in that city and likely retailed West through their popular catalog. Originally blued from the factory Folsom most assuredly applied the nickel finish and ivory grips it wears today. Overall the pistol retains approximately 75%+ bright period retailer applied nickel finish with sharp edges and relatively smooth surfaces throughout albeit for just a couple small spots of typical marring or roughness expected from frontier use. Original blued cylinder pin, trigger, and case hardened hammer have toned to plum/gray color. The one-piece ivory grips have a beautifully aged smooth yellow appearance. Other than minuscule rounding to the right front toe and common grain checking from age the grips have no cracks, chips, or repairs. They are slightly undersized overall and loose in hand due to natural shrinkage yet fit the gun nicely and properly. Matching serial number "37462" is stamped on the frame, barrel, cylinder, backstrap, and triggerguard. Interestingly an additional "C" over "DFC/P" (faintly) marked under the barrel indicates that the barrel was originally intended for a US military contract but was condemned for service at the factory. Colt was never in the habit of wasting parts so condemened military pieces that were still good enough for civilian use were commonly incorporated into commercial production revolvers such as the case with this pistol. All major components of this gun are original together as assembled at the Colt factory in 1877. Clear original three-line patent marking, caliber designation, and serial numbers with lightly worn yet legible Colt barrel address. Full original blade front sight with bullseye ejector and brass spring. One or maybe two screws are correct replacements with all others appearing original. The action is crisp and functions perfectly with just slight typical cylinder play on lockup. Good bore for a blackpowder Colt of this vintage showing strong rifling front to back with moderate fine blackpowder frosting scattered throughout. A copy of a Colt factory letter is included confirming it's original configuration and shipment. A very attractive, honest, and authentic early Colt with a classic cowboy look! *NOTE: Due to ivory restrictions this revolver will not be sold or shipped to residents of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington.
