1873 Colt Single Action Army .45 Revolver 4 3/4" Nickel 1896 Factory Letter *ANTIQUE* Blackpowder 1st Gen SAA Original & Untouched!
Description: *SOLD* Fine Untouched Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver, Nickel Plated with Factory Letter, .45 Cal, mfg. 1896 with 4 3/4" bbl. I cannot overstate how original and unmolested this Colt is. It has never been altered in any way and remains totally untouched inside and out. It is also worth noting that this is one of the very last blackpowder frame Single Actions ever made with smokeless frames first appearing over serial number 164000. Overall the pistol retains 70% bright factory original nickel finish turning frosty with fine oxidation crazing scattered throughout. The majority of finish loss is around the cylinder and sides and top of the frame due to heat from firing. These areas have turned a deep plum/chocolate patina and otherwise the gun shows little evidence of having actually been carried. There is essentially no wear on the front sight or trigger, nor typical index finger wear on the triggerguard. The checkered hard rubber grips fit perfect and show only very light wear with no cracks. There is one small surface chip on the right rear lower edge. Matching serial number "163801" is stamped on the frame, triggerguard, and backstrap, and very faintly visible scratched into the backside of the grips. All screws are original and all retain traces of fire bluing. Original hammer, trigger, loading gate, cartridge extractor with brass spring, and perfect full blade front sight. The sight retains all it's original finish with factory milling marks still visible and has never been touched with a file. Sharp original rampant horse logo, patent dates, "45 COLT" marking, and two-line address. The action is smooth and crisp and functions flawlessly. One of the best actions I've felt in a long time - this is how an original Colt should feel! Clearly it's never been fooled with. Lockup is fair with typical slight pay and tight cylinder gap. Bright bore with strong rifling and light to moderate fine blackpowder frosting scattered throughout. Factory letter is included which confirms the gun's configuration and shipment to Simmons Hardware in St. Louis, Missouri, one of Colt's top retailers. When you hold this gun it really feels like a time capsule. Obviously it was fired a bit but I think it spent the majority of it's life sitting in a drawer. A super honest original blackpowder Colt that will make a choice addition to any collection.
