1873 Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter Revolver .44-40 Rare Etched Panel 4 3/4" Nickel Carved Steer Head Ivory 1883 SAA Cowboy Pistol
Description: High Condition Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter Revolver, Nickel Plated with Carved Steer Head Ivory Grips & Factory Letter, .44-40 WCF, mfg. 1883 with 4 ¾" barrel. This is a stunning Wild West era blackpowder frame Colt Single Action in excellent condition. The overwhelming majority of etched panel .44's made during this period had 7 ½" barrels making those with shorter 5 ½" and 4 ¾" lengths quite rare. Overall the pistol retains 80%+ bright factory original nickel finish with notable fire bluing visible on all screws. Colt factory carved steer head ivory grips are from a later vintage dating to about the 1920's but are spectacular in their own right and fit the gun amazingly well. They feature original silver rampant horse medallions and the steer head is fitted with ruby eyes and a gold nose ring. Grips have a wonderful creamy yellow color with attractive natural age checking and no chips or cracks. Clear two-line barrel address, patent dates, “44” barrel marking, “44 CF” marked triggerguard, and fully intact legible “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” acid etched panel. Matching original serial number “93167” stamped on frame, triggerguard, and backstrap. Original hammer, trigger, loading gate, ejector assembly with brass spring, full blade front sight, fire blued cylinder pin, and all original fire blued screws. The first safety click sits low but otherwise the action is incredibly strong and crisp and functions flawlessly with four clicks. One of the best actions I've felt in some time. Cylinder locks up like a vault with little to no play. Great bore with clean sharp rifling and only light blackpowder frosting. Included factory letter confirms the gun's original configuration as .44-40, 4 ¾" barrel, nickel finish, grips not listed (standard rubber), shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York, New York, July 11th 1883. Hartley & Graham was one of the premier suppliers of Colts across the country and to the American West in particular through their popular mail order catalog. A very hard gun to find in this condition with an absolutely classic cowboy look! *NOTE* Due to ivory restrictions this pistol will not be sold or shipped to residents of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington. No international sales. Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique arms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only.
