19th Century ANTIQUE COLT SAA in .38-40 WCF
Description: 19th Century ANTIQUE COLT SAA in .38-40 WCF Nickel Finished Single Action Army Made in 1898 Here we present an antique Colt Single Action Army, made in 1898, in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt SAA has become one of the most iconic firearms in history, especially with regards to the American West in film. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt’s began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. This revolver in .38-40 WCF would have made a fantastic companion to a Winchester Model 1873 or 1892 in the same caliber. Interchangeable ammunition for rifle and sidearm was extremely popular in those days, especially in the West, where one could go for a long time without finding a place to restock ammunition. It also came in handy in the heat of a fight when single loading a revolver or rifle was made much simpler if one only had a single type of cartridge to shove in the gun. The overall condition is very good plus. The re-nickled finish is about 98%. The markings are mostly legible. The serial numbers match. The trademarked hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a great example of a prototypical cowboy gun in the great .38-40! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-3/4 inches. Caliber: .38-40 WCF Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4275 #8502 SOLD Antique: Yes |
