Description:
This is for my Colt 1st Generation SAA 45 Colt revolver with 7 1/2 inch barrel.
The postive- The revolver is in very good condition with traces of case color on the frame and 30-40% blue on the barrel. The serial numbers match on the frame, triggerguard, grip frame, and cylinder. The bore is bright with excellent lands and grooves and with only some very fine pitting. The action is tight and the four clicks are solid and distinct. It came with smooth wood grips, but I had a set of 3rd Gen. hard rubber grips that fit well and I found these more comfortable to shoot with. Both sets of grips will be included with the gun. The 3rd Gen, grips will require a little filing and polishing at the bottom of the grip if you decide to use these permanently. The 3rd Cen. grips are marked with serial number 89925 inside each grip. the wood grips are unmarked.
The negative- The Colt factory letter is included, but the barrel length on the factory letter is 5 1/2 inch. It is serial number 3354xx and was shipped to Shapleigh Hardware Company in St. Louis, MO, on February 3, 1917. At some time since then, someone has replaced the 5 1/2 inch barrel with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. There are a couple of small dings on the rear of the barrel where a wrench or vice held it.
I purchased this revolver to shoot and have probably shot 400-500 rounds of cowboy loads through it. It works well and is very accurate, shooting close to the point of aim. Unfortunately my age and eyesight are catching up with me, and my shooting opportunities are becoming less frequent, so I am letting go of some of my guns that are spending almost all their time in the gun safe. Due to the fact the barrel length does not match the letter, I am pricing it as a "shooter".
