Description:
This one-of-a-kind (and that’s a good thing) Listing from a family collection is a Used; Circa 1907 ; SN 294,6XX; Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .38 Special; 5½ Inch Barrel with what we speculate is amateur/hobbyist/kitchen-table engraving that was done long ago. Although not professional or master engraving, the artist did a decent job. The patent dates have been polished or ground away, but still, we are certain that this is a genuine Colt Gen-1 SAA. Barrel Markings; Serial Numbers and Locations; Inspection Stamp on the Left Side of the Trigger Guard; presence of Remaining Case Color; and other features mark this as Colt manufacture. Some parts may be 2nd Generation; and we cannot be sure that .38 Special was the original caliber. Polishing the frame apparently left the screw heads proud as the Trigger and Cylinder Bolt screws were trimmed flat on the left side – and all of the screws protrude a bit on the right side. Grips are well worn with preserved checkering and rampant Colt insignia; the bore did not photograph well, but has preserved rifling that makes this a safe, reliable, and genuine Colt shooter. Any viewer’s guess is as good as ours regarding why or when the modifications were performed – making condition estimates dependent on the photos.
