Colt .45 Cavalry Single Action Army Re-Work - 1st Gen
Description: This SAA Colt First Generation Cavalry Revolver is in exceptional condition. As with many of these early black powder frame military Colts, this one is a mixed numbers rework. The frame is case hardened, still retaining a good bit of color variation, with a "US" stamp and three line patent date on the left side. The lower front of the frame has been stamped by sub-inspector David F. Clark, with the proper three initial stamp. The frame serial number is 56623, indicating that it was manufactured in 1880. The barrel is 7.5" long and chambered for .45 Colt. The barrel has been government blued, a government specified softer blue than the high lustre blue found on civilian versions of this firearm of the same time period. The trigger guard assembly has 137807 as a serial number, indicating 1891 as it's manufacture date (and possibly the date of re-build by Colt). The trigger guard assembly (and cylinder) has a higher lustre blue finish and all frame screws are high fire blue, indicating they are likely replacements. The initials H.N. (Harry Nettleton) are stamped on the upper rear of the trigger guard assembly, directly underneath the hammer. This may indicate that this was one of a small group of known calvary revolvers which were part of a large surplus of civilian SAAs. There are no initials or cartouches on the cylinder or walnut grip panels. Mechanically sound and functioning. This gun was in the collection of the late John ("Jake") Grady of Horsham, PA. We were retained to sell his collection by his widow. Upon her passing, this was one of several additional pieces found at the estate. As such, I have no history, information or provanance for the gun It is in beautiful shape and would make a fantastic addition to any Colt collection.
