Real Description:
Unlike Cowans, here you will get a full description of this revolver.
This Colt has matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. The gate number 6617 also appears under the frame. The grips fit perfectly as apparently original, with the initial “-WN-” and “11/14/16” scratched inside right grip, and , “-N-” and “Jan 11, 1911” scratched inside left grip. Both grips show about the same amount of wear to the checkering, with slightly more on the right grip. The gun cocks and locks up with decent tightness, and both the safety and half cock notches are functional (not broken). The half cock notch has been deepened. Gun retains a trace of blue in protected trigger guard areas, with the balance being generally a smooth grey.
The left rear trigger guard is stamped “T”, which some think means that the gun was “Targeted” and came with a test target. In the past, I have not seen any “T” stamped guns described as such in a factory shipping letter. It would seem that the “Targeted” process would be an extra cost.
The bore has strong lands and grooves, with some shallow patches of pitting in the grooves. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would call this one a 7-bore condition. The cylinder chambers are nice as pictured, and only need some dried grease/residue cleaned out. The steel front sight has been trimmed. The ejector housing appears to be original, but the rod and head are a “back-yard” fabrication. The rod coil spring is original, and has no problems. A replacement Colt SAA rod and head are recommended (easily found and purchased).
Most original markings are very bold, including the frame and trigger guard serial numbers, barrel address, patent dates, the “Viewed-Proved” VP triangle on trigger bow, “38 W.C.F.”, and the expected “41” on underside of barrel. The butt serial number has been partly filed, and some lateral cuts are noticed across the trigger guard serial number.
All screws appear to be original and remain nice, with only the ejector housing screw being deviant. After pictures were made, I replaced this ejector housing screw with a Colt product.
The price below is without grips, in trying to make this Colt SAA very cost attractive.
If you want the original grips, just add $200 to the price below.
In some cases, I can ship directly to a C&R licensed individual.
