Colt SAA .44-40 4.75 inch sent to Ft Smith 1893.
Description: This is a colt SAA 4.75 in 44-40 sent to Ft Smith Arkansas in August of 1893. All 4 clicks on the action and grips are original to the gun. This one has never seen a buffing wheel which is how I like them. The bore is about 6 out of 10 as you would expect in a black power work horse. Ft Smith History This was the gateway to The Indian Territory where only US Marshals were allowed to enforce the law. It was overseen by Judges like Isaac Parker who had no time for mercy. Judge Isaac Parker served as U.S. District Judge 1875–1896. He was nicknamed the "Hanging Judge": in his first term after assuming his post, he tried 18 people for murder, convicted 15 of them, and sentenced eight of those to die. Six of these men were later hanged on the same day. Over the course of his career in Fort Smith, Parker sentenced 160 people to death. Of those, 79 were executed on the gallows. SOLD Antique: Yes |
