This is a very rare SM, which I believe was a factory mistake in the original legers. It is 4" bbl. in 38-40. Like a shipment of six.38-40 4" barrels that went to New Orleans. This gun was probably listed wrong years ago. It has a tiny "650"{ last four digits }
this gun is "187650 651, 653,654, letter as SM's 4" 38-40
on the back of the cylinder between chambers which attest to it's SM liniage.You only see this on special order guns. And is only one digit off the serial number of one in that bunch and two off of another. It would be a 12k gun IMO but Colts mfg. told me it "lettered" as one of our standard lengths so I didn't bother. I think it went to New Orleans along with the others in that aforementioned grouping. Can't prove it thus the price reduction. You can even see slight hints of the old case colors faded and the orginal factory polish lines in the frame cut-out were if faked would've not been like that after all the work of makeing it a SM from a standard frame. Finish is gray patina smooth metal with all matching numbers, hard rubber grips. Shows some bevelling on the butt strap edges. Fine action and very good bore.
