The item for sale is a Colt Single Action 45 caliber revolver. The Colt Single Action Army is arguably the gun that won the West. Certainly Smith & Wesson, Remington, Merwin & Hulbert and others left their mark on the Western Frontier. However, it is the Colt Single Action Army that is remembered for its contribution. With the caliber options and barrel lengths available there were many variations of the Colt available to the buyer. The one often preferred by lawman and badman was the iconic Colt 45 with a 4 3/4" barrel to clear leather quickly.
The revolver offered for sale is a nice example. It features a 2-line barrel address, 2-line patent dates on the left side of the frame and caliber marking on the left side of the barrel. Mecanically the revolver functions as Colt intended. The action has the Colt 4-clicks with virtually no free play in the cylinder. The bore is very good. The action is tight and solid as Colt designed it. The Colt Factory letter shows the revolver shipped with a 5 1/2" barrel, either the records are in error or the revolver had the current barrel updated at a letter date.
The metal is very good not dinged  or pitted. The screw heads are nice. It appears that there was some cold blue touched-up. It is a matching numbers revolver as shown in the photos. The grips are correct and in excellent condition, possibly replaced. A nice example for a Colt or Western Collection. Another fine Colt from South Texas.
