COLT SINGLE ACTION ANTIQUE EARLY BLACK POWDER 44-40 WITH IVORY GRIPS

The item for sale is a Colt Single Action out of South Texas. This is a Black Powder revolver chambered for the 44-40 cartridge with a 7 1/2" barrel, blued and  Ivory grips shipped in 1879. If any firearm could be termed "immortal," the Colt Single Action Army is that firearm. History has proven the great merits of the Single Action Army design. Colt adopted the 44-40 cartridge for the Single Action in 1877, however quantities were not available until 1878. This revolver was shipped early in 1879 representing an early production 44-40. This is an etched panel Colt, however that has faded and worn away. The revolver has survived the hardships of the Western Frontier and the metal finish reflects the usage. The Ivory grips speak of a time long gone. The attached Colt Letter provides the factory data.
Mechanically, the revolver is very good with the famous Colt "4-clicks". The bore shows black powder pitting typical for the age of the revolver with good lands and grooves.
