Colt Single Action Army .45 Colt – FACTORY 93% vintage firearms inc
Description:
General Specs: Colt, Year 1916, .45 Long Colt
Serial Number: 331933
This is an original pre-WWI First Generation Colt Single Action Army (SAA) Revolver (Peacemaker) in a .45 Colt (also known as .45 Long Colt). The Colt Model 1873 was the mainstay of the Frontier. This Colt, sn331933 shipped in 1916, is in superb factory original condition, untouched by the restorer’s hands, still retaining 95% strong factory nickel plating, showing a small amount of holster wear, a few areas of flaking, but no rust, pits, or remnants of such. We have received a Colt Archive letter on this gun documenting that it shipped with nickel finish, 4 ¾” barrel, type of stocks not listed. The special-order Colt was shipped to Stauffer Eschleman & Company for George Potchernick, a big-wig in the building and hardware business throughout south Louisiana and south east Texas. The Colt wears Mother of Pearl “STEER HEAD” carved grips which were made popular on special-order Colts revolvers shipped to Texans. The bore is frosted, not pitted, with strong rifling remaining, clear sharp lettering and stampings, excellent original screws, carved pearl grips appear to be original to the gun. It is a frequent occurrence on special-order Colts that the type of stocks is not listed. The fact that Mr. Potchernick was a societal giant and ordered the nickel finish, it is likely he would have ordered the pearl grips as well, as they were very popular in the era of 1916. The gun has all matching serial numbers and proper inspector stamps…just a delightful, honest example of a fine Colt from the turn of the century. A factory letter documenting the gun is included in the photos and will accompany the gun upon sale. What a fun gun this would be to shoot some tin cans or jack rabbits with. Just imagine where this gun has been and the stories it could tell! The gun was shipped in the days there were still cowboys and drifters gambling in the saloon and gunfighting in the streets. The mechanics of the gun are excellent, with the timing of the action perfect and no play in the cylinder when cocked. Thanks for looking!
