Colt Single Action Army Dual Marked Caliber .44 Russian and .44 Special

Colt Patent Firearms Manufacture Co. Single Action Army w/ Dual Caliber Marking "Russian and S&W Special 44".

Serial number: 333xxx (ca. 1916) w/ nickel finish, 7 1/2" barrel w/ one-line address.

Colt introduced the Single Action Army in .44 Russian in 1889 and in .44 S&W Special in 1890. After 1913, all Colt Single Action Armies chambered for .44 Russian would also accept Smith & Wesson's .44 Special and, between 1913 until the late 1920's or early 1930's, Colt SAA's chambered for either caliber had dual caliber markings on the left side of the barrel: "Russian and S&W Special" next to a "44".

I have read that Colt only marked 24 guns this way and I have also read it was as many 154.

Two lines of 3-patent dates and rampant colt on left side of frame, matching serial number under frame, "84" assembly number seen on back of frame under grip frame and "384" on the loading gate. 

Two-piece "steer head" ivory grips w/ early style Colt escutcheons facing left and right.

This gun is reportedly a high quality restoration by the great collector and firearms restorer, Tommy Haas.

Overall, gun remains about 90% as restored w/ an excellent bore. Grips are sound and only show natural cracks or age lines, but no damage or repairs. Mechanics are sound.
