Colt U.S. Marked 1st Generation SAA .45 With Factory Letter
Description:
Colt U.S. Marked 1st Generation Single Action Army in .45 with One Piece Ivory Grips, 5 ½” bbl., serial number 76,XXX manufactured 1882 with U.S. stamped on left side of frame next to 3 line patent date. Factory Letter states this Colt was one of 10 shipped to Schoverling, Daly and Gales Jan 21, 1882 New York, New York, originally equipped with a 4 ¾” barrel with no mention of grips. The replacement 5 ½” barrel has unique “Hartford” address stamped on the right side of the barrel. The replacement cylinder has Colt pony stamped in between the chambers, a feature that is found on early 2nd generation revolvers when production continued in 1956. These two features would put the reconditioning of this Colt around the late 1940’s early 1950’s. Overall in very good condition, re-finish has caused some of the stampings to fade, case color frame has good colors in protected areas, cylinder has a drag line & light edge wear & barrel finish has a couple light scratches from use. Ivory grips remain in very good condition & are well-fitted with a couple spidercracks on the bottom of the left grip. Bore & chambers are shiny & rifling is visible with edges. Action is crisp locking up tight.
