Description:
A wonderful US Marked Cavalry Colt Single Action, serial number 8553, manufactured in 1874, the second year of production, and issued to the 8th US Cavalry, Troop C, according to Springfield Research Service (when it was available). This Cavalry unit was stationed at Fort Union, New Mexico and took part in the Indian Wars (1874 - 1890) throughout Arizona & New Mexico. According to the Kopec letter of 1989 the revolver is authentic with only two minor replacement parts (1880's period), and that it is an exceptional example of an early O. W. Ainsworth Sub-Inspected revolver. It should be noted that the revolver remains in the same condition as when Kopec examined it for authenticity.
