*Sale Pending* - FANTASTIC PAIR OF FACTORY ENGRAVED IDENTICALLY PREPARED BLACK POWDER COLT SINGLE ACTIONS
Description:
Caliber 45. Elaborately engraved by Helfricht I believe. Beautifully done. Complete with matched Mother of Pearl carved grips with a buffalo on the left of one and right of the other. A lady is carved on each opposing side. Very nicely done and something I have not seen before on a Colt. Guaranteed correct and have been in a number of high profile collections. Tom Seymore of Texas and Larry Sheridan being a couple of them.
Complete with Factory Letter stating 2 guns shipped in a batch to order. 7-1/2 inch barrels, silver finish, pearl grips, factory engraved and shipped to William Nelson on Sept 30, 1884. One gun is in the 95k serial range and the other in 111k range. Major William Nelson grew up in Evansville, Indiana. As a young man he moved to Oklahoma territory. He was a clerk of court and became involved in real estate and did well apparently since he purchased these Colts. There is quite a lot of paperwork with these giving details of the Major's life. Very interesting. One of the finest pair of Colts in the country. One has seen a little more use than the other but both are in excellent condition. One has a repaired crack on the grip that was nicely done. Mechanics are crisp and tight. The guns are very nicely fitted in an original English case. Marked "Evans & Wormall 31 Stamford St. Black Friars London". Case is in excellent condition and displays the guns very nicely. Complete with cartridge block. To find a matched set of black powder single actions with silver finish is nearly unheard of. Guaranteed to please! Well documented.
