GORGEOUS, HIGH CONDITION, GREAT DEPRESSION ERA SINGLE ACTION ARMY, .45 COLT, 5 1/2" BARREL, #354XXX, MADE 1931
Description: GORGEOUS, HIGH CONDITION GREAT DEPRESSION ERA SINGLE ACTION ARMY, .45 COLT, 5 1/2" BARREL, #354XXX, MADE 1931. Manufactured in the second year of the Great Depression when sales were low and most of the Colt workers had been let go and only the finest craftsmen remained, this example shows beautiful vivid case color and blue! The case colors are fading a little on the top strap and on the extreme outside of the recoil shield and loading gate with the balance vivid. The deep blue has only thinned/aged on the back strap and on the high edges of the ejector housing tip and a slight spot at the muzzle on the left side. The grips fit beautifully and are excellent, but by serial number inside (349XXX) appear to be grips from an slightly earlier revolver. The action is extremely tight and the hammer has the correct four clicks. The bore is minty bright and the cylinder retains nearly all the blue on the front face indicating that this revolver was rarely if ever shot. Perfect, sharp markings. Screws are excellent and most retain about all the bright blue. Truly a stunning example of a 90 year old Colt during a time when few were made and the country was just beginning a decade of difficult times.
