Henry Nettleton " Buy Back" Colt Single Action Army
SALE PENDING
Description:
This is an original Henry Nettleton (HN) inspected Calvalry revolver, shipped to the U.S. government on August 24th, 1878. It was subsequently shipped to one of the state militias, and then bought back from that state, still packed in it's original shipping crate. Once returned to Colt, the "U.S" stamp was removed from the left side and it was nickel plated and resold to the commercial market. This gun which is serial number 50,221, was just recently discovered but fits into the range of the 24 others which have been documented by Mr. John Kopec, author of "Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers". The Nettleton guns fall between 47,339 and 50,433. Most of these had the "U.S." stamp on the frame removed before they were nickel plated, and only a few have the "45 Cal" stamp on the trigger guard, which was normally only used on guns intended for the civilian market. This example works well and while some serial numbers and markings have been partially obscured by age, wear, and oxidation; it retains all of it's original "HN" inspector's stamps on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and hammer. As you can see in the pictures, this Nettleton Colt Single Action comes with a factory Colt letter and would be a great addition to any Colt or Martial Colt collection.
