KANSAS CITY Antique COLT Black Powder SAA Revolver
Description: KANSAS CITY Antique COLT Black Powder SAA Revolver Factory Letter to J.F. Schmelzer & Son KC, KANSAS! Here we present an antique Colt Black Powder Frame Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured in 1895 in Hartford, Connecticut. According to the Colt Archive Letter this piece was shipped on May 4, 1895 with 5 others to J.F. Schmelzer & Son, a large Kansas City, Kansas sporting goods store on the edge of the frontier. The Colt “Peacemaker” was introduced in 1873 and has become one of the most iconic firearms in all of history, thanks to its widespread use by the U.S. military, civilians and, more recently, in Western films. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt’s began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. The accompanying letter confirms that this left the factory with this original 4-3/4 inch barrel with a blue finish and hard rubber grips. The top of the barrel reads “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” The left side of the frame is marked “PAT.SEPT.19.1871/ PAT,JULY.2.1878/PAT.JAN.19.1875”. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces bear a gray patina with hints of the original blue finish. The markings are legible. The serial numbers match. The trademarked Colt hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is in good shape with a frosted appearance. The action on this revolver is strong and crisp. Here is a fantastic Colt Single Action Army that we know went to the far reaches of American civilization in 1895; where it went after that is anyone’s guess! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-3/4 inches. Caliber: .45 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $5225 #7248 SOLD Antique: Yes |
